I suggest having a fiat specific diagnostic check before taking any action. This will confirm what part of the system is faulty. The most likely is the heater plug control unit rather than a glow plug. This component (a sort of power relay) is fixed to the nearside inner engine compartment side panel under the fuse box cover.
1. Engine misfires or decrease in power and acceleration. Engine misfires are one of the first symptoms of an issue with the vehicle’s glow plugs. If the glow plugs malfunction they will not provide the additional heat that aids in diesel combustion, which may cause the engine to experience misfires. The misfires may cause a loss in power
Re: Punto console indicating "check glow plugs". If the glow plugs in Multijet (Fiat)/Quadrajet (Tata) get jammed then the head needs to be opened. I learnt it the hard way & had to spend 15K for the same. Better changing all 4 once in 4/6 years or after covering specified kilometres as mentioned in the owners manual.
I did order a deep reach socket that is for glow plugs first. Three came out easy, the last one was a pain but did come out eventually. The flats were a little rounded. So I broke the head off and forced a slightly smaller socket on. I also sprayed them with wd40 the night before then got the engine nice and hot. Hope that helps.
Feb 03, 2017 #5. Part number 59 in my diagram, is described as a glow plug timer unit, so not a simple relay. There is a controlling signal coming from position 1 of the ignition switch. There is another control signal coming from the starting position of the ignition switch, presumably this 'cancels' the glow plug unit.

You should see continuity from four of the connectors on the relay socket to the four glow plug connectors on the plugs themselves: Plug 1 (UK driver's side of engine) Brown wire. Pin 1 of Relay. Plug 2 Red wire Pin 2 of Relay. Plug 3 Yellow Wire Pin 3 of Relay. Plug 4 (Air Filter side of engine) Green Wire Pin 4 of Relay.
