Yeah totally, its better if the specs of the sticks are as similar as possible, but its often not an issue. I bought some DDR2 RAM for m current system which has 8GB RAM in total with each 2GB stick being from different brands, but the specs were exactly alike so I got em all to work, even OC'd all of them from 667 MHz to 800MHz on an intel board.
Even with a big recording project with a lot of MIDI I've never seen the memory usage go over 9GB RAM. The system configuration lists the Dell part number of the memory module (s) and the number of modules in the system. Looking at the Dell sales site for the XPS 8940 I see both 2x8GB and 1x16GB are available.
The reason is simple, it runs dual channel up to 16 Gb and single channel on the rest of 8 Gb. Sisoftsandra values about 18 Gbps memory bandwith. With dual channel it reach 25 Gbps, single module 13 Gbps. So just upgrade to biggest single module you can get and keep the old RAM. 24 Gb total RAM is better than 16 Gb. Share. The thing is that my partens gave me a dell g15 that comes only with an 8gb ddr5 4800mhz stick. I dont want another 8gb stick cause im needing more RAM so i was thinking in buying an 16gb stick and put it in the first RAM slot of this laptop so all the process and programs could be loaded first there.

1. Follow step 1 to 2 of the “To remove the memory module” section to shut down your Synology NAS, disconnect the cables and remove the drive trays. 2. Insert the new memory module into the empty slot: a. Align the small gap between the gold connectors of the memory module with the notch on the empty slot. Insert the memory module into the

Do NOT mix RAM capacities if you want decent performance. Either get 2 of the 2x8GB kits, or settle for only 16GB of total system RAM. Also, what CPU and motherboard are you using? You can probably get better performance around the same price if using a different brand's kit. (like G.Skill)

Since it says dual channel, adding another 8GB DDR3 1600 G.Skill RipJaws X will enable the dual channel facility and it'll increase the performance a bit. Then if it's not fast enough and if you are using more than such RAM capacity
